I’ve received several inquiries about the Mug Rugs shown in my buy lasix water pills.
I made these mug rugs from selvages for a quilting retreat that I hosted last weekend. I started with a 5″ square of fabric and placed a 5″ square of batting on top. I added the selvages by overlapping the raw edge of the bottom selvage and stitching along the finished edge of the top selvage.
I continued to add selvages across the 5″ fabric/batting square, diagonally, until the entire square was covered.
Once the square was covered, I turned it over and trimmed the selvages evenly with the backing fabric and batting.
After trimming, I stitched 1/4″ from the edge of the mug rug.
I used pinking shears to prevent the raw edges from fraying. This method is so much faster than binding and it looks great!
That’s all there is to it! I made 20 mug rugs in no time at all. Of course, I didn’t even make a dent in my two bins of selvages! LOL
Have you made any gifts for quilters? I’d love to see your ideas!
Have a great day,
